February 2007

Saturday (24-Feb 07) – Participated in Cyclefest Putrajaya 2007 after being absence from it last year. The best part was, I get to be in the Junior Veteran Category…huhu. Something that i’ve gained for 35 years & been waiting for… and so were Nor Affendi Rosli, Adli Dahlan (Icecube) and the rest of the hardcore racers…cis! How come they grew old same as me?? Aku malas nak tukar ke slicks so belasah aje Specialized Roll X 2.0…hahaha. So kedengaran lah di telinga betapa lazatnya tayar ku membelah angin & kelihatan lah sayup-sayup riders lain meninggalkan aku. Nasib baik 2 lap, so tak sempat kena over lap…hahaha! T-shirt cantik tapi malangnya dapat saiz bapak punya besar, no thanks to Hj. Roslan yang lambat settlekan aku punya registration & payment although aku dah submit form last week.

Sunday (25-Feb 07) – While all orang JB still sound asleep, I did my kayuhan kemasyarakatn with my fellow neighbours Nizam, Mutalib & Asharul to Batu 14, pekena mee jawa mantap & back. Covered a clean 22km on mtb.

Friday (23-Feb) – Took the chance of watching the first most anticipated Marvel character movie for 2007…Mr. Torchy Head the Ghost Rider, not forgetting Nicholas Cage, my all time favourite Hollywood star from Gone in 60 seconds, The Rock & Face Off. Ramai orang at the cinema sama2 nak watch the movie, maybe sebab CNY cuti sekolah seminggu. Obviously we can tell whether he or she is a Marvel fan or simply saja-saja tengok macam tengok movies yang lain.

The start of it was the same as other earlier Marvel movies i.e. Spiderman, X-men, Hulk, Fantastic 4 where the comic pages flips continued by a PS2 simulation motorcycle ride through the tunnel of fire. The young Johnny Blaze & Roxanne almost had the same look as Nicolas Cage & Eva Mendes although other movie critics say otherwise. The love affair between them was plain simple, rasa macam tak berbaloi pulak nak tunjuk. Maybe sebab nak selit2kan dengan part macam mana Johnny boleh terjebak dengan perjanjian devil. Obviously the intro was kind of humdrum. Terasa macam tengok movie tahun 70-an pulak.

Then bila Johnny dah became Nicholas Cage, ok la jugak since the story tells us that even he attempted numerous crazy death defying daredevil stunts, he’s still alive…sebab he’s being “guarded”. Kemunculan Blackheart & kuncu-kuncunya boleh tahan menyeramkan especially masa the bargirl menyorok behind the bar after the knowing the whole bar was killed…aku hampir kecikkan mata sikit sebab takut terkejut…hahaha. Blackheart’s style was brutal tapi ke-brutal-an dia tak ditunjuk secara detail.

How Johnny Blaze transformed into the Ghost Rider was a recall from American Werewolve in London, something that Nicholas Cage is good at. However, the fight scene between Ghost Rider & Blackheart’s gang should be better like Spidey vs Doc Oc. Muka2 kuncu2 Blackheart semua dahsyat mcm model tapi senang je kalah dgn Ghost Rider…apa raaa? Finally the fight with Blackheart himself pun macam sempoi sangat.

Overall, aku rasa the movie sepatutnya boleh lebih detail untuk dimuatkan dalam time 2 jam tu instead of trying to squeeze in unnecessary stuff. Sungguh rasa terkilan tengok Nicholas Cage & Ghost Rider, both are strong characters berada dalam weak story line.

However, we shall wait other Marvel heroes this year i.e. Fantastic 4 & Spiderman 3. Not forgetting Transformers by Michael Bay.

20-Feb (Tue) – Lagi sekali kerja giler. Rode to Bagan Lalang and back from BTHO with 7 other guys. There were 5 of them from Bdr Tun Razak whom I first time met, Bachin & Alwin. I only managed to cover a distance of 118km out of the total 133km as completed by the rest. Had to bail out once reached UKM due to the blazing sun & being unable to catch up with the peloton on the way back. It was one hell of another ride after Morib & Kuala Klawang. We met up at Projet of the Cheras-Kajang Highway somewhere at 8.00am & rode off to MTDC Bangi covering about 16km from BTHO. Traffic was light at Kajang town due to the festive holiday. Next was the same route to Morib except that we took the left turn towards Bagan Lalang instead of going straight to Morib. It was supposed to be less 50km to and fro.

Bagan Lalang beach was the same from my previous visit a few years back. Somehow, the infra has improved a bit with a few food courts and public toilets. In fact there was this new Sepang Gold Coast that was believed to be a seafood restaurant smacked in the middle of the flat coastline. Beach was full with holiday makers. There was also our Jabatan Bomba & Penyelamat with their on-going search of an 11 year old boy drowned the day before. It was in last nights news.

After fuelling up with nasi campur, mee hun goreng, nasi ayam & nasi goreng, we started our journey back at 11.30am where the sun was at it’s prime coverage. The way2riders and P2K had left Bagang Lalang 30 minutes earlier. I was on my own upon exiting Bagan Lalang junction all the way to UKM. They regrouped at Bdr Salak Tinggi & somewhere before Kg Jenderam. The rest of the time, I was singing to myself. They averaged at 28km/hr while I only managed at 22. Reached UKM somewhere at 1.40pm & being rescued by my team manager before heading home by car.

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit
I’ll give a little bit of my love to you
See the man with the lonely eyes
Take his hand, you’ll be suprised
So i’ll give a little bit
I’ll give a lttle bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
Now’s the time that we need to share
So send a smile, we’re on our way back home
ooh yea yea
We gotta feel it
Yea yea yea yea…
Ooo
Don’t you need to feel at home
Ooo you gotta feel it
Yea you gotta want to
OO you gotta sing, we’ve come along way tonight
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
I’ll give a little bit
I’ll give a little bit of my life for you
Now’s the time we need to share
So send a smile, we’re on our way back home
Yea come along too
Yea we gotta feel it
Cause i need to feel at home
Come along too
Such a long ride
oo come a long way
Such a long ride
Come a long way
Sing it tonight

It was another weekend with loads of cycling stuff going around, even EPL was kept aside till night falls. le tour de Langkawi pun dah sampai ke final stage criterium KL after 11 stages Peninsular Malaysia. This time around banyak focused on routes up north & east cost & back to the middle with all time favourite Genting Peres-Kuala Klawang, Genting Highland & KL criterium stage.

Stuck to the tube every evening at 7.30pm with highlights of each stage on TV9. Boleh tengok banyak road cycling phenomenons. Ada gak terlopong a few times watching these pros doing their magics, for example the thing with attackings, breakaways & best of all…catapulting a rider from a group. Crazy man these guys! They were doing like 60km/hr over 142km flat stage like the KT to Cukai.

I missed the Genting stage but a glimpse of it…they were standing throughout the climb & still going strong…dude! Our malaysian cyclists ada jugak yang made us proud like that chinese guy from Kelantan, the L2A team but not the national or the so called development team. Langsung tak nampak kelibat langsung. Ada la sekali mamat Pauzan tu buat breakaway masa baru keluar from KT tapi tak sampai 3 minit dah kena telan peloton semula. Itu pun silap2 balik kena sound dgn boss sebab pandai2 buat breakaway tak nak bagitau awal2….ekekekekek.

10-Feb (Sat) – Well what do you know? It was tarmac ride mtb style with the Zone 3 gang. All 5 of us. I thought of the idea yesterday considering the enthusiasm Nizam, Mutalib & Azhar had after having their new born family member into their life…a mountaibike…ekekekek. Wa ajak depa kayuh light & easy around btho & nearby housing areas. Arranged with them to meet up at the pondok 7.15am. Turn out was great…even Asharul loaned Azhar’s GT for the trip. Covered almost 15km covering btho, TKC, rumah disneyland & back. Oh man! It felt wonderful having to get the feel of a true cycling again…mtb that is.

11-Feb (Sun) – Having to spend the whole night staying awake with EPLs & some vidz stuff, I had to inform Saiful to bail out from the planned road ride normal Sunday Langat route. Felt like escaping from one of lectures…hehehe. But, wa continued with the spirit of mtb with my new fellow neighbours doing another 17km exploring new climbs around the neighbourhoods. It was awesome. Afternoon, did another job of being a bike consultant for Asharul who bought Giant Boulder 19″ from Bicycle World, Tmn Melawati for RM950.

Petang just chilled at home escaping from the hot burning sun & watched le tour de Langkawi final stage criterium KL on TV1.

It’s been a while since I updated my blog. For the last two Sundays, Ulu Langat route was all time favourite.

Sunday 28-Jan 2007 : Attempted Genting Peres with Alwin, Bachin, his friend & Azri. Was determined to just make it a 55km up & down back to Batu 14. Completed the ride with a newly found mee jawa mantap at Batu 14 itself. Mee kuning simpan dalam laci toyogo that made it unique…hehe. Attended Akmal’s wedding in the afternoon.

Saturday 3-Feb 2007 : After being anticipated by my fellow neighbours to advise them on buying mountain bikes, finally I brought them to Tat Seng after making my fast study yesterday on the bikes available at the LBS. A 2007 Giant Yukon & an OEM Scott. Nizam bought the Giant while Mutalib got the Scott. My car was the transporter la of course. Now, I might have to adjust a slot to ride with them pulak besides a slot with my kids & my fellow weekend Joes.

Sunday 4-Feb 2007 : Attempted the same venue like last Sunday but a little bit of modification. Gathered at Batu 14 meeting with way2ride & PCC guys whom have their own picked route. I rode from home to Batu 14 which cost me 22km (return) plus up to Peres & down towards Tekala for a pit stop. Swallowed 2 pcs of kuih & sebungkus nasi lemak. Pedal off to Batu 14 vied Bkt Langat a.k.a Bkt Pendek (as named by Bachin) a.k.a Bkt Hantu (as named by Azri) a.k.a Bkt Setan (as named by Alwin).

Many names were called depending on method of concurring it. Most of the names were due to the cursing & mumbling while attempting it. Especially when you have to climb the 3km steep winding road with your back being burned by the scorching 11.45am sun. Rolling down back to Batu 14 was definitely a recovery stage for me knowing that I have to ride back home for another 11km. Reached the front gate at 12.20pm realising the colour coding of skin have changed.

Log : Milage = 90km. Time = 4 hours. Weather = Coolling at Peres, burning at Bkt Langat. Riders = Bachin, his friend, Azri, Alwin, Saiful & me.

Monday 5-Feb 2007 : Thought of doing a bit of running but was advised not to considering the 90km session yesterday. So, just chilled at home.

Tuesday 6-Feb 2007 : So excited to run, hit the road although I arrived home late after being cheated to attend a late meeting at 4.00pm. Had 3 rounds = 3.6km aje considering the limit of time before Maghrib. Tried to run to the beat of No Nain by Blindmelon but after the 2.4km, the earplug started to slip away due to sweat. Ceh…memang kena cari mp3 player soon. iPod Shuffle is it? RM390 for 1Gb….
